Suzy Goodson BSc FCA

I qualified in 1988 as a Chartered Accountant and Registered Auditor with Grant Thornton, Birmingham.

Although specialising predominantly in audits I gained valued work experience within the corporate finance and personal and corporate tax departments. My clients included housing associations, pubs and restaurants, national charities and manufacturers. I worked with both public and private limited companies.

In 1996 I decided to change direction to specialise in working with owner managed businesses rather than plcs as I enjoyed working with the business owners them selves rather than the finance managers.

I attended training courses run by Sage in Sage in order to ensure I could offer advanced support to clients where needed.

During this time I also gained valuable experience in all types of tax investigations ie VAT, PAYE and corporate and personal tax.

I learnt how to prepare records as well as audit them.

In 2000 became a partner in a firm of Chartered Accountants in the West Midlands dealing with all audit, accountancy and tax issues of sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.

I went to a “Boot Camp” for accountants to learn a whole new set of business advisory skills as I believe accountants should be able to give advice on all aspects of a clients business when asked.

Since then I have an holistic approach to the services I provide, making sure that every aspect (ie tax, VAT etc) is considered before offering advice etc.

Due to family commitments I moved to Bedford in 2003 and subsequently started this practice from scratch!

I therefore have first hand experience of setting up and running a business, giving me invaluable knowledge of what issues clients constantly face in the ever changing business world. I not only know the technical answers to questions raised by clients, but can offer insight on what worked/didn’t work for me!

I now employ 3 people on a part time basis to help me provide the full range of services.
